Adding a HEPA Filtration System to a Commercial Unit

Adding a HEPA Filtration System to an Existing Commercial HVAC Unit

A HEPA filtration system can be added to a commercial heating and cooling unit. Generally it is added to the AHU – air handling unit. Depending on the unit and the size of the building or if there is an RTU (roof top unit) sometimes more than one is needed, for example in ceiling vents in commercial buildings.

In most cases they are relatively easy and straight forward to add or tie into an existing system where possible and practical; known as a whole building filtration system.

In the past, Commercial grade HEPA filtration systems were for additional practical reasons, such as hospitals, mortuaries, or places of high combustion such as print shops, places with chemical fumes, plastics, soldering, industrial cleaners, any powdery ingredients including flour, wood or metal refinishing for example.  Art galleries too, tech aerospace or clean room environments, evidence storage rooms art storage and the like.

Nowadays it is more important than ever to have clean, pure inside air.

HEPA filters down to 0.3 microns and is 99.97% effective with a fresh filter, and traps pathogens, bacteria, many viruses (98% according to MIT including flu), mold spores, dust, allergens, smoke and odours and more. Silver infused HEPA filters, as silver has natural antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties.

MIT also suggests that controlling temperature and humidity is a viable option for reduction of viruses – higher temperatures and humidity levels can kill or disable viruses.

Some buildings, labs and medical facilities require negative air machines in order to prevent the spread of contaminants.

Other air purification systems sanitize the air using ionized-hydro-peroxide generators, which safely and effectively can control bio-contaminants, VOCs, odour and chemical fumes, remove evaporated chlorine   as well as destroy mold, mildew, pet odours, sewer odours, bacteria from decaying organic matter, tobacco, certain bio-hazard materials and more.

Hard surface sanitization one-time treatments done on an as needed basis for sanitizing a building is also an option, it can be done daily, weekly, or whenever needed. A fogging machine is used to deploy the health Canada approved sanitization solution over hard surfaces and fabrics. 100% natural yet powerful product.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the most effective way to improve indoor air or remove or at least reduce the sources of pollutants inside the dwelling is to ventilate with clean outdoor air (see air exchangers article).
